Pretty Bow

DeeDee has a thing about her red bowtie. Everyone tells her how pretty she is when she’s wearing it and she goes to each person that is in the house to show them how pretty she is and smiles.

She has a big underbite, and her lower jaw teeth are not formed properly. She has one tooth on her lower jaw that is dead center of her mouth and points forward. When she smiles, she lowers her bottom lip to show her gums and her one toof. That is her smile, the more gums you see the happier she is.

I’ll put the whole album of rescue-day-party up soon, but the short of it is once a year I have a doggie party. Since I don’t know any of their birthdays, instead we just have a dog-party, where I celebrate them. Celebrate rescuing them. Celebrate the joy they bring.

MASHED POTATOES

I had some left over mashed potatoes and a little bit of chicken left over from dinner, so I made all the dogs a little plate. Around 1-1.5 tablespoons of mashed potatoes and a sprinkling of chicken. I only make this a few times a year, so anytime I do make mashed potatoes (from scratch), they get a little bit.

It took a few tries but I think I got a good picture of them noming hard.

Fatdoge’s Fries Part 2

Since she was young, she has had laser focus and can lock on to food from tens of feet away. I’ve thrown food at her from over 30′ away and she’s caught it. I routinely (as in several times a day) toss random food and treats at her from 15′ or so and she catches 9 times out of 10. The miss being my fault. She’s a bit older and slower now, but the front end is just as fast and accurate.

Fatdoge’s fry noms

Fatdoge is, by all metrics, the best. She’s been my partner in crime for nearly 18 years now. We’ve been through so much together.

Sparky’s first Greenie

There are these treats called “Greenies” that are tooth cleaning treats. All of my dogs LOVE them, and it’s by far their favorite treat. They only get them once a week, on Sunday night after they’ve eaten their food, gone outside to do their business, and the night’s wound down.

This is Sporky’s first Greenie. I made sure he was last to get it, so he could see how much the other dogs LOVE it and go crazy begging for them. So when I gave it to him, he KNEW how important it was. It worked

Rusty’s Story

My boy Rusty was, by far, the worst-case rescue I’ve ever seen. He was a feral street dog that never had an owner before, was about 1.5 years old when I rescued him, and had been in MANY fights. But you could see the kindness and affection hidden under the layers of pain and suffering.

At first, I wasn’t sure if I could keep him. That turned into maybe I can keep him as an outside dog. Then that turned into maybe he can be an inside dog. And now he’s the most affectionate, silly, caring dog I have. He takes care of all the other dogs. Has no aggression of any type.

If another dog takes his treat or food, he just watches them eat it, then turns to look at me like “Daddy, she ate my cookie 🙁 I guess I’ll go lay down now 🙁 ” and walks away. His face and body has hundreds (I’m not exaggerating) of puncture wounds, he has a 6″ long scar from where his neck was ripped open, the top of his snout was ripped open, and all the white dots of fur on his face are scars from tooth puncture wounds. He has a broken ankle that didn’t heal right.

At least once a day, he has to lay on my chest with his arms hooked over my arm, his face pushed against my face or snout under my chin or neck, and I just hold him. He just lays there. Then he gets up, licks my face, and continues on with whatever he was doing.

What more could you ask for?

I swear it just exploded on it’s own!

Caught this naughty boy un-stuffing a toy! When a toy gets damaged enough and gets holes, all the dogs love pulling the stuffing out. I keep re-stuffing it though, it’s the official “stuffing toy”. They make a mess, but it works out because they don’t tear up other toys, since there’s one toy that’s meant to be un-stuffed. This picture is from his first time pulling the stuffing out, and wasn’t sure if he was in trouble or not.

Sparky’s Octuple Canines

Sparky has 8 canine teeth. He has all 4 of his baby canines, and the permanent canines have erupted, but they did not push the baby teeth out the way it normally happens. He’s lost 3 of the baby teeth so far (one upper baby canine tooth is still there) but this picture is from when he had all 8, 4 permanent coming out and the 4 baby teeth. It can cause problems if they don’t eventually come out, but there is some time still left in that window. The fix is having the veterinarian remove the baby teeth (they don’t have roots, so it’s not a huge deal).

Naughty Wolfham

The rules are simple. Just don’t get on my pillows. I also used to say “Don’t get on my blankets” but that fell by the wayside so I now put a ‘dog blanket’ on my bed to keep it clean during the day. And this naughty girl pulled my sleeping blanket (not dog blanket) on top of all my pillows, and set up shop. “Do what you must, for I have already won” — Wolfham

Sparky’s First Bath

Sparky is one of two that aren’t ‘rescues’ in the sense that I did not pick them up off the street. He had a loving home, but had too much energy, and the previous owners just had a new baby. He was too rough with the other kids, so I took him in. This is after his (maybe) first bath.
